The Tubalizer is a simple yet powerful buffer stage (gain = 1) operating at line level (2 VRms max).
It can be inserted between a CD player and the amplifier, or between the pre and the power amplifier, or even used INSIDE a hify component to add the right bit of "tube" sound.
The "Tubalizer" is not a preamplifier, the level is almost unchanged (gain factor = 0,98), but its presence is clearly noticeable.
Most important: the Tubalizer needs only a simple standard 12Vcc regulated power supply. No dangerous high voltages, no need to use heavy and costly transformers. Just a good quality stabilized power supply will do.
The "Tubalizer" is actually more than that. Recognizing that the "sound" of a tube is mostly dependent on the biasing of the tube itself, that is on how we choose the operating point of the tube, we have added a simple yet smart "tuning control" to fine tune the sonic character of the circuit.
Just turn the pot to change the operating point of the tube in real time, while you listen to the music. You can taylor the circuit to the rest of the system, or even adapt the sound as a function of the balance of individual CDs .....
We have used our initial samples both as buffer circuits, between a CD player and the amplifier, or in the tape loop, as well as to modify the output stages of CD players: if you are smart with electronics it's really simple to put the "tubalizer" inside a CD player (yes, with the power supply too!), wire it so that the output stages of the player are bypassed (you know, most of them are based on OP-AMPS, and and the sound is much degraded)
The effect is impressive ... just try and you'll hear, it's a reversible modification!
