The new amplifier KIT was born out of our collaboration with AudioDigit, a young company specializing in audio electronics and acoustics
measurement software. Take a look at [www.audiodigit.com].
It's a new amplifier based on the same "Class T" technologies of the now famous "T-Amp", but ...
- has a little more power, it's based on the TA2020 chip and not the SMD TA2024
- has been designed with the DIY enthusiast in mind, no SMD components or difficult soldering ....
- has an even better sound compared with the "T-Amp", thanks mainly to a new output filter based on "air core" inductors developed by AutoCostruire
We've been working on its optimization for months, and the results are beyond our expectations: truly, an entry point to high quality audio.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
- very small double sided PCB board: only 80x50mm (about 3.12'' x 2''), fits almost anywhere
- all the components are included (chip TA2020, high quality condensers, resistors, output inductors, high quality ALPS potentiometer ...)
- no SMD components at all
- EMC optimized layout: no radio frequency emission or interference problems even if used without a metal case
- Output power of 20 +20 W on 4 Ohm at clipping, a little less on 8 Ohms
- you can optimize the output stage to suit the impedance of your speakers: using two condensers in parallel the circuit can be optimized for 4, 6 or 8 Ohm. A reference table is included in the instructions, but you can fine tune it to suit your own listening requirements ....
- custom output inductors with air core by Autocostruire: they don't saturate (like the ferrite nucleus one) with high currents, the sound is improved dramatically, even the "hiss" of the recording (when present) is more like the one of a good reel tape player ....
- can be built as an integrated amplifier (with volume control) or as a power amplifier: you can bypass the potentiometer with two soldered connections, and the gain of the amp can be changed by replacing two resistors...
- Requires only a low voltage (11 to 13.5 V, max) power supply: comletely secure. A good quality linear supply with an output current capability of 3 to 5 Amperes is recommended.
BUILDING COMPLEXITY
Very low, can be built by anybody who has a little experience with a soldering station.
THE SOUND
Our "Class T Amp" KIT has more power compared with the original T-Amp. With loudspeakers of average sensitivity (86 dB, 4 Ohm) you can easily reach levels comparable to live performances in medium spaces ...
The sound is "rich", resembling at times the performance of a tube amp, helped greatly by the air core inductors.
Given the extremely low noise, the "blackness" of the musical background, it can be easily interfaced with high quality and high efficiency full-range speakers.
In this configuration, and with good recordings, the acoustical instruments are rendered with solid three-dimensional reality.
